Measuring the vapour permeability of packaging, coatings and laminates has become standard practice to ensure the strength, integrity and printability of the packaging along with content preservation, shelf-life and reduced contamination. The process has now become much easier, faster and more convenient with Versaperm's introduction of a mass-spectroscopy based instrument that can measure permeability for any combination of gases with single measurement.

The system works on all packaging materials, including coatings, laminates, films, card and plastics as well on complete and finished packages or containers. From toothpaste and feed sacks through to blister packs, modified atmosphere, food, pharmaceutical and traditional packaging, Versaperm's new multi-chamber system allows you to boost strength, printability and performance by identifying, customising and correcting problems.

The equipment can either be used on the materials themselves, or on complete finished packages.  This can be critically important as manufacturing processes such as thermoforming, folding, moulding etc. can easily change the package's vapour permeability by a factor of four.  The sealing process can affect it by an even greater amount.

The equipment is fast, reliable and easy to use - producing results that are accurate in the parts per million or parts per billion ranges.  Where desired the equipment can control temperature, pressure and other factors.

The multi-chamber system allow measurements to be produced on multiple samples at the same time, different designs and clamping systems cater for varying sample types.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a technical consultancy service plus a permeability testing service for companies that need to test packaging or materials on an irregular basis.
